What We Are About
Most of us lead complicated lives. Some men attempt to strike a balance between church, home, school and/or work. Whether married or single, father or son; the temptations and pressures of the world bombard men from moment to moment forcing us to make daily life altering choices such issues in your marriage, arguments with your girlfriend, a father that does not respect you or a son does not listen.
The Iron Men Initiative (IMI) offers men an honest and confidential forum where men can have frank, truthful discussions. Do you know of another place?
Why Iron Men?
Iron is arguably the most widely used metal known to man yet in its natural state, iron ore, it is not very useful. It is not until iron ore undergoes the smelting process which removes its impurities before it can be of any true value. Soft and malleable in its purest form; once exposed to intense heat it can be forged and shaped into a durable, hard tool or weapon.
Throughout the Bible and our natural history books, iron represents strength, power and determination. It stands both as a symbol of the control granted in victory and the yoke that seeks to suppress that control in bondage. However, in all cases, iron embodies authority, fortitude, and a relentless pursuit in obtaining and maintaining one’s goals and objectives.
The Iron Men Initiative believes that in every male child exist iron ore. Our environments, our teachers, mentors, families, friends and even enemies have all served to some degree in participating in this smelting process. It is from these individuals that we have learned to distinguish between what is good and bad; right and wrong and what it is to be a man. For many of us, the smelting process was either incomplete or unproductive. As a result, we matured, yet we questioned ourselves, our purpose, our abilities and even our manhood. Although many of us grew up exposed to Christianity, we still question our faith or our belief in the one true and living God.
There is a successful Christ-like Man in each one of us: an Iron Man. But make no mistake regarding this Iron Man’s strength, because his growth, both mental and spiritual, is an ongoing process wherein his iron ore must still be smelted; impurities removed. The iron that is gained (experiences, strength, resilience, wisdom, etc.) must then be tested and proved in the crucible’s flames before we can be forged into the men that God has always required.
